Emergency Support for the Needy1. Client name: Mrs Gedam Alemu age 65years old. Has two children aged 16 and 14 to live with her. Recently, she has diagnosed as uterine cancer from the government hospital and she is now on follow up treatment.

2. Type of support: Temporary home maintenance support
3. Local partner: Kebele 12 administrative office
4. Problems identified:
• A woman lives with her children in a small temporary shelter which is made from wooden with mud and the wall was covered by some corrugated iron sheet that was provided from the community. This woman her children family had lived for more than 20 years and the home became old and not maintained by the local kebele administration due to lack of attention and resource scarcity. So that, they suffered more especially during the rainy season. They were forced to sleep with a muddy ground without a bed which exposes them different health problems.
• Besides this devastating living condition, she had tried to send her children to school with the income that she get from doing some begging in the strait
5. Intervention:
• The project identified the problem by having a face to face communication with the local kebele admin. And decided to support a fifty -fifty share. Therefore, in our part; we covered the expense of wooden materials and corrugated iron sheet for the roof with a total cost of 4,000 ETB. The community covered the expenses of nail, mud, and the cost of labor related expenses.
6. Future direction:
• As the way we support them, we see some good opportunity to support the children educational progress because we have identified that the older boy is now attending grade 5, last year he had scored 90% and stood 3nd at class from the whole student.
7. Conclusion:
• Lastly, now the family home is well maintained and managed to live safely. Their hope has revived and thanked us. The local kebele admin also gave us a thank you later for our project with a signature from the chair.

Mequanint Achenef liteMequanint is a young man who is married recently and lives with wife parent’s home after he was displaced from his parent’s home to make a living. Mequanint had not got an opportunity to be an employee even if he had completed grade 10th, He tried to many times for searching some jobs at different cities and rural kebeles in the nearby, but it only wasting time.

But, one day he had contacted his wife parents to live with them and make a living. His wife parents were decided to give a piece of land for production of crops and he was able to construct a small house its well made of mud and wood and its roof covered by grass to start life with his wife ‘’ Zewdi’’. Later, before a year they are become a parent of one daughter.
As a house leader, he was decided to make agricultural activity after making an agreement with his wife parents to use their oxen for ploughing activity. But, he is expected to do all the agricultural work beginning from ploughing the land up to crop harvest in compensation to the service that he used oxen freely.
One day, he met one of our beneficiaries at Andasa and visited his irrigation work and he was decided to visit us and made a request to support him especially to purchase a ‘’Water Pump Generator’’ to be used for irrigation purpose to use the opportunity of his owned land that was situated near the great Abay river located 27km south of Bahir Dar.
After we made a field visit to his family and assessing the life situation of the whole family, we have decided to support step by step not to make him fully dependent from our provision. First, we gave him a cash of two thousand ETB as a loan to purchase; Onion and Vegetable seeds to be returned by three months. Then, we thought and decided to coordinate with one of our previous client ‘’Desalegn and Abebaw’’ after we made a discussion. Then, Mequanint was able to borrow their ‘’Water Pump Generator’’ for some time. After that, for the first time he was succeeded to get high amount of profit which exceeds more than six thousand ETB net income helped him to return the loan once without any financial problem before his returning time reached.
Lastly, after asses his strong spirit of working to change his family encouraged us to give him a loan of eight thousand ETB to purchase ‘’Water Pump generator’’ alone for better agricultural work. Now, he has the opportunity to use the whole time and labour on his lamd only. And also, he is able to support other family members of his wife parents to use the water pump for irrigation and other related agriculture. He has now become the model who changed the mind of his colleagues and relatives of his wife who live in the community.
In our recent home visit, we saw the changes in his small own home for example he has now a well made wooden bed with mattress and blanket. And, the family house becomes full of different household equipment.
